Retro Electro is a unique project that is concurrently the renovation of a historic building and the development of a new building that is shaped by the history of the site.
In evaluating the existing structure with the developer it was determined that by removing an accessory non-contributing structure attached to the main building the site would be able to accommodate a new building off the alley and re-establish a previously hidden historic facade.

The new building accessed off the historic Electric Alley will add 17 residential apartments to the Salem downtown core and add to the vibrancy of the Historic Electric Alley which currently is activated by multiple restaurants, creative studios, and shops.
The renovation of the historic building will provide new commercial space, accessed from both Electric Alley and Commercial Street, on the ground floor and insert 4 apartments into the second floor.
The resulting two building dynamic establishes both a view into the past through the redevelopment of a historic downtown building and creation of a new urban infill residential building.
